The Orphan Review

The Orphan is a thriller movie which very popular among teenager lately. Though the movie is watchable for all age. This movie begin when John and Kate lost their third child to stillbirth and seek to adopt an older child since they have such a harder time finding a home. They find a charming young girl at an orphanage run by an order of nuns. Esther is quickly adopted by the Colemans, taken home, and introduced to their other two children, young teen son Daniel and a younger deaf daughter Max. Max is taken with the charming Esther and gradually becomes her partner in small mischief that seems like a game. Daniel is less than welcoming not through Esther strange behavior, only because he’s a realistically drawn teen boy, disgusted by Esther’s old fashioned clothing and odder behaviors.

They choose Esther among other orphans because they were in love with her the first time they met her. She seems different among other girl. She has unusual appearance from girls her ages. She is an introvert girl. Her hobby is painting to spend her time, her collections describe her experiences in her daily life, especially for the strange moments.

The strangeness appear when Esther become John and Kate's family then life together with other biological kids of them, Daniel and Max. Her behaviour is not like a normal girl, she acts like she knows everything. In the other hand she pretends in front of her new family.

Time goes by, the mother starts to realize the truth that Esther has been pretending. She aware about Esther then asking her husband, John, to take her to psychiatrist. But John did not noticed and assumes that Kate is exaggerating.

In her family Esther is a very polite, mature little girl. She always seems to know what to do to push all the right buttons in people. Where does Esther come from? Throughout the movie, the mother is trying to figure out the origin of Esther. If she does not like the people around her, she must kill her victim without being guilty and she never left her evidences. Every tragedy that happened is painted in both painting, Esther and Max. So the motive and the truth can be seen through their collections.

Near the end of the movie, she gets the call about Esther she's been waiting for.Esther is not a little girl. She is a 33 year old woman who suffers from a rare disease which makes her look like she's nine years old. Her modus operandi is to worm her way into households, tear the family apart and make a play for the dad. When the dad rejects her, (judging by her body count it seems like every dad rejects her), she vents her anger by hacking up the family.
